Learning Path Overview

This learning path builds upon skills developed in Creative Instruction—path level 300. As we become stronger and more effective in our instructional design and implementation, we consider how we can make learning experiences more meaningful, relevant, and authentic for students. We support students not only academically, but holistically, so they can become advocates for themselves and their communities. This learning path encourages learners to rethink education and discover new methods to provide quality education.

Designing Project-Based Learning Experiences
Access for 12 months

Level 403 | PK-12th | 2 hrs

Designing Project-Based Learning Experiences

Project-based learning (PBL) is an active process where students engage in meaningful learning. In this course, participants will explore how PBL can provide opportunities to foster a creative and collaborative classroom environment, motivate learners with voice and choice, and challenge them through inquiry and self-management. Participants will explore examples of PBL integration and examine a study of PBL as an instructional approach. Through this exploration, they will identify aspects of PBL that support learner success and develop a plan to implement PBL in their classrooms.

Metacognition for Visible Learning
Access for 12 months

Level 404 | PK-12th | 2 hrs

Metacognition for Visible Learning

Metacognition, or “thinking about thinking”, is a vital process in the mind of an actively engaged learner. Learners who make use of metacognitive strategies do not just passively receive knowledge; rather, they actively engage in the learning process. This is because metacognitive processes engage learners in considering what they know. It supports them in keenly discerning which strategies can support them in effectively learning or achieving what they set out to learn or do. Metacognition has been shown to support learner success and outcomes. In this course, participants will explore the meaning of metacognition and its utility in the learning process. In this course, you will develop an understanding of how metacognition impacts learning outcomes and how to employ metacognitive practices and strategies into the classroom.
