  • Author: Eduscape
  • Course Level: 101
  • Est. Length: 30 minutes
  • Grade(s): PK-2nd Grade
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Young readers build comprehension skills by making connections between literature and their own experiences. When making connections, students are able to understand and remember what they read more effectively. In this mini course, we will discuss different types of connections, such as text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world, and explore strategies to support your students in making these connections. You will examine strategies on how to enhance your PK-2 student's engagement in texts and ability to make meaning of what they are reading. With the examined strategies, we will choose a mentor text and create a plan for modeling and practicing making these connections.
